A Hair Brain Idea to Save the Gulf

Have you ever wondered what your local hair salon does with all of the hair that’s collected each day? Now, with MatterofTrust.org, you’ll know exactly where your trimmed locks are located and it’s definitely not inside a trash can!
MatterofTrust.org is an ecological charity that concentrates on man-made surplus, natural surplus, and eco-friendly education. In other words, they take certain materials that are generally perceived as waste and use them to help aid in a specific cause. Talk about a great way to recycle!
Now, here is where your excess hair comes into play. Currently, MatterofTrust.org is focusing its efforts on the Gulf oil spill (in addition to others worldwide) and set up a program called Hair for Oil Spills. Recently, Phil McCrory, a stylist from Alabama, discovered that hair acts as a magnet that attracts proteins and oils, hence, the reason for shampooing our tresses on a daily basis. The program encourages all salons, pet groomers, farmers, and anyone who has access to hair-like material to donate their wasted clippings and/or nylons. These fibers are then stuffed in recycled nylons and covered in mesh to make booms or hair mats that help to clean up the petroleum.
So now you can strut out hair salon more confidently because you’re not only helping to clean up petroleum spills worldwide, you’re looking fabulous while doing it and we at Brushfire think that a picture is definitely worth one thousand words (or dollars)...Have YOU helped to save the world today?
